Data:
- Bilingual duos visit homes to survey 1,000 primarily Latino households in a rectangular area bordered by 4 streets.
- The purpose of the survey is to ascertain the issues affecting families to better target services and address community needs.
- Results of family success data will outline cradle-to-college-to-career continuum.
- Federally mandated - government orders that a consent form be signed, but it is not tied to the anonymous surveys.
- Questions about children’s issues, nutrition, housing and fiscal matters.
- MEDA volunteers were found through community outreach efforts and trained by MEDA staff.
- Ran from April - June.
Data:
- MEDA data collectors: over 30 volunteers, 10 Hispanic community outreach members, & 15 youths.
- Over 450 households completed the 57-page survey.
- Found that families are spending 60%-70% of income on housing.
- A lot of overcrowding impacting children’s ability to do homework & engage in school.
- MEDA will conduct two more surveys over the next three years.
