Locally grown food on day care centers' menu
Description:
- A three-year project that connects farmers to day care centers to serve nutritious, local food.
- Will also will provide training and assistance to help day care staff prepare and serve the food.
- Goal: To give children exposure to foods they may have limited access & to foster lifelong healthy eating habits.
- In Wake County, 16.9% of children ages 2 - 4 are overweight, & 15.7% are obese (2011).
- The project will include more than 160 day care centers.
- Funded by a $675,639 grant from the John Rex Endowment.
